‘I believe that Empathy is one of the pillars that allows design to be a bridge between the understanding of a problem and action towards a solution.’ Angela Morelli

ANGELA IS
Angela is an Italian designer based in Norway. She gained her MA in Communication Design from Central St Martins, where she specialised in Information Design. Her first degree was in Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and she has an MA in Industrial Design from Milan. She has collaborated with a number of research and commercial organisations in Europe and works as a Graphic and Information Designer. She is Associate Lecturer at Central St Martins in London and runs Information Design workshops for designers and non designers. She frequently lectures at international conferences on design and communication. In Norway she collaborates with researchers and scientists at the Knowledge Centre in Oslo on the communication of health information. She serves as an ambassador for virtual water and water footprint research, and was named a 2012 Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

ANGELA LOVES WATER
During her two years MA she became increasingly interested in social issues. The Global Water Footprint of Humanity is her final MA project, based on research carried out by Unesco and The University of Twente in the Netherlands, and awarded Honorable Mention for Outstanding Work at the INDEX:|AIGA Aspen Design Challenge Designing Water’s Future. She has spent her last six years working around the subject of water, since she discovered the hidden cost of Virtual Water.

ANGELA LOVES INFORMATION DESIGN
She defines Information Design as the Design of the Understanding (Richard Saul Wurman) and believes that delivering understanding and clarity is an art that can be taught and learned. She believes that a sustainable behavior is not only dependent on the likes of few people who avoid letting water run for hours while having a shower. There must be a social infrastructure to support them. Information Design plays an irreplaceable role in that direction, in order to educate people, to visualize complex topics making them accessible to a non technical audience, and to raise awareness on issues we cannot witness with our own eyes.

ANGELA LOVES TEACHING
Angela has completed a Post Graduate Teaching in Higher Education Course at Central St Martins in London where she is Information Design Associate Lecturer. She teaches Information Design to design students and she trains non-designers who need to acquire necessary skills in order to organize their daily data-dose to understand, structure and present data. She lectures at international conferences on design and communication.
